Fall 2016 After-School Enrichment Begins September 29 and 30 
  Thursdays - 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20,10/27, 11/3 (Makeup 11/17)
  Fridays - 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4 (Makeup 11/18)

Tuscan students in grades 1-5 are eligible. Every class is $100 for six weeks. Some classes have a $20 materials fee.

Thursday Classes 
NEW! Screen Printing - Thursdays - Grades 3,4,5
The PTA donated brand-new screen-printing supplies to the art room this fall. Mr. Dean will have students making their own screens and printing on everything from pillowcases to tee shirts. Priority will be given to 5th graders, then 4th for this popular class. *This class has an additional $20 supply fee.

NEW! Button Art - Thursdays - Grades 1,2,3
Button! Button! Ms. Sinclair has hundreds of buttons! Maybe thousands of buttons! We'll transform them in to marvelous works of art in this fun, new class.

NEW! Improv - Thursdays - Grades 3,4,5
This class will use improv games and scenes to improve communication skills, shape ideas and have fun. Using characters and quick thinking to build fun environments, kids will learn how to make bold choices and how to strengthen their own ideas. We'll perform for our parents on the last day of class.

NEW! First Aid - Thursdays - Grades 3,4,5
This basic First Aid class will help prepare our students for emergencies. Emergency Medical Technician Dianne Eglow will teach when and how to call 911, emergency preparedness and how to treat minor injuries at home. One week will feature a visit from an ambulance and demonstrations by local EMTs. 

LEGO Robotics - Thursdays - Grades 3,4,5
Tuscan's own vice principal, Mr. Mason teaches this challenging robotics class using LEGO Mindstorms EFX units. You'll work in teams to build and program robots to complete tasks like calculating direction of travel or scoring a goal. It's creative and competitive and technical and fun! Priority is given to 5th graders, then fourth graders in this popular class.

Beginner Chess - Thursdays - Grades 1,2,3,4,5
Spark an interest in a lifelong game. This basic chess class is the group for those who are just starting out and want to learn to play. Learn the basic moves and play chess against other students.

All Sorts of Sports - Thursdays - Grades 1,2,3,4,5
It's "game on" for this popular sports sampler class. Coach Dave teaches a different sport each week, from basketball to soccer. When the weather is nice, we play outside, so dress appropriately. Come try something new!

Healthy Cooking - Thursdays - Grades 1,2,3
In this fun, hands-on class Ms. Nelson and her students create healthy meals or snacks, from smoothies to stir fry. Try new things and make healthy food that's also delicious!

LEGO Builders - Thursdays or Fridays - Grades 1,2,3
It's a LEGO-palooza in Ms. Mungiello's LEGO Builders class. Students develop their engineering and creative skills while building their masterpieces. Each week will have a different theme, from vehicles to letters to tall buildings. Choose from Thursday or Friday classes.

Friday Classes

NEW! Storylines - Fridays - Grades 1,2,3,4,5
"Under a Tuscan Sky" is the theme for this new storytelling class. Instructor Joseph Wachs, who holds a master's degree in digital storytelling, helps kids find their story and tell it to the world. They'll develop creative writing, social skills and presentation technique.The last day will feature a performance for parents.

NEW! Voice - Fridays - Grades 2,3,4,5

Voice will introduce students to the fun and joy of singing while teaching them the correct way to breathe and sing in a natural, unaffected way. Learn to warm up and strengthen the voice, present a song, develop character and sing alone and with others. The last week of class will be a performance for parents. Taught by professional voice coach Aimee Willis.

NEW! Maplewoodshop - Fridays - Grades 4 and 5 
Maplewoodshop is bringing back the timeless art of woodworking. Students will use old-fashioned hand tools like saws and drills to create a car with moving wheels and their own village to drive it in. Safety comes first and the instructor has great techniques for teaching kids to use hand tools safely. Maplewoodshop founder Mike Schloss Priority will be given to 5th graders in this popular class. *This class has an additional $20 supply fee

NEW! Sensory Surprise- Fridays - Grades 1,2,3
Is it rubbery or rough? Slippery and slimy? Bland or spicy? Noisy or calming? Sensory Surprise is all of those things. Each week we'll start with a book, then do a related activity that's sure to stimulate all the senses.

Solar-Printed Pillows - Fridays - Grades 1,2,3,4,5
Using special photosensitive materials and found (and favorite) objects, we'll create and sew one-of-a-kind solar-printed pillows to bring home. *This class has an additional $20 supply fee

Advanced Chess - Fridays - Grades 1,2,3,4,5
Advanced chess is for students of any age who can already play chess without help. This class will help build their strategies and improve their play. Perhaps we should have named it, "Beat Adults At Chess."

Clay Art - Fridays - Grades 1,2,3,4,5
Learn to build clay art in this fun class taught by Joan Tomasco of Clay Art for Kids. Students will design wet clay, paint fired pieces and add creative touches like beads to projects including wind chimes and peace signs. Other projects may include fossils, turtles, fish bowl with sea life, star and butterfly bowls and more. If you've done this class before, you'll do new projects. Dress to make a mess and bring your imagination! *This class has an additional $20 supply fee.

Jewelry Design - Fridays - Grades 3,4,5
Professional jewelry designer (and Tuscan parent) Pam Wolpov teaches her students to make stunning, wearable jewelry pieces to take home. *This class has an additional $20 supply fee.
