SPED-PTO and Maplewood Rec Dept. invite special needs children within the South Orange/Maplewood school district to a pool pizza party! Up to 4 family members along with child may attend.

Special Education PTO
The South Orange Maplewood Special Education Parent Teacher Organization (SPED-PTO) works to make a difference in the lives of all children with special needs. Its goal is to promote the welfare of the special education student by providing parents with the tools and information they need to work collaboratively with the school district and be more effective advocates for their children.
Each year the SPED-PTO holds several meetings to help parents network with other parents, share information about Special Education issues and educational concerns, and understand changing special education laws.
The SPED-PTO supports the on-going professional development of district staff regarding special education and encourages the inclusion of children with disabilities in these communities.
Membership is free. All parents who have a child receiving special education services in the district or who live in the district but whose child is in an out-of-district special ed placement are already members of the Special Ed PTO.
Special Education PTO meetings are held in the Board Of Education meeting room at 525 Academy Street, Maplewood, and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Additional meetings may be scheduled to accommodate parent interest and concerns.

ADD/ADHD Parent Support Group

The Parenting Center is sponsoring a monthly support group for parents of elementary and middle school children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or children who have attentional difficulties. It will offer parents the opportunity to share information, concerns and solutions.
The group will be led by Lorraine Caputo, LCSW. She is in private practise in Maplewood, has extensive experience working with children and families and has run numerous workshops for parents in our school district.
