FROM FATHERLESS TO FATHERHOOD – Tuscan’s own Mr. Kevin Mason, Assistant Principal, is ready for his close-up! Come see this timely documentary starring Mr. Mason Thursday evening in the Tuscan Auditorium. Filmmaker Kobie Brown and Mr. Mason will conduct a panel discussion about the film after the screening. Reception at 7pm in the library; screening at 7:30. Do not miss this Maplewood premiere!
Tuscan School will be hosting an Open House for Prospective Parents / Guardians on Thursday March 6th between 2:00pm -3:00pm. This is a great opportunity for those who are considering Tuscan School for the 2014-2015 school year to see the building and learn about our incredible community. For the consideration of your fellow parents and the school staff, we ask that this be an adult-only event.

The Achieve Foundation of South Orange & Maplewood is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization made up of parents, educators, merchants and other volunteers from our towns who raise money to enrich the educational experience of students at all nine local schools. To date, the Achieve Foundation has raised $1.8 million from events, campaigns, corporate and foundation grants, and—most important—contributions from over 2,500 local families.
School Superintendent Dr. Osborne will hold the annual Elementary Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, February 5th. He will briefly discuss his vision for the elementary schools and answer questions in a Town Hall meeting format.
In addition Dr. Osborne gave the State of the District Address on January 15th.

The Parenting Center is pleased to announce the launch of the Maplewood South Orange Adoptive Parents Group. We’ll be meeting monthly, on a Tuesday evening, at the Parenting Center, in Maplewood. Our goal is to build a community that can help support all of our families. We look forward to sharing resources, ideas, stories & strategies with adoptive parents in Maplewood & South Orange. EARLY KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION DATES
MLK DAY holiday is Monday, January 20th, please join us at the MLK DAY CELEBRATION at 10:00am at South Orange Middle School. This is a joint effort from all our school PTAs, including Tuscan. There will be crafts for the kids, a performance by Philadelphia actor Gregory Kenney, the Inspirational Dance Company and music. This is important for every Tuscan student to attend and celebrate the life and work of Dr. King, not to mention a great way to keep them busy for a couple of hours on a holiday!

From Fatherless to Fatherhood: Because Families Matter
Music executive and filmmaker Kobie Brown created this documentary film and initiative that explores the causes, effects and possible solutions to father absence. The film focuses on fathers, including our own Kevin Mason, who grew up without fathers and their journey to become the best husbands and fathers they can be. Panel discussion with producer/director Kobie Brown and documentary subject Tuscan Assistant Principal Kevin Mason.

You can help a child succeed at school! Achieve Volunteer Tutors provide academic assistance to students in the South Orange Maplewood school district who need extra help. Volunteers can choose the age group and subject they prefer. Day, evening or weekend hours are available. All tutoring takes place in schools under the supervision of district staff. No teaching experience is necessary, volunteers complete a registration process, participate in a training program and commit to one hour per week.
