Students in kindergarten through grade three listened to her read her book, The Magic Brush, and discussed the book with students. In discussing the writing process, she suggested they "close their eyes when they are writing and wish for a story to come to them". After she read the book, she made up stories with the students, including very amusing story about a talking, singing frog.
Ms. Yeh facilitated writing workshops for students in grades four and five. Students were surprised to learn that surprised to learn that one of the inspirations for her book, The Truth About Twinkie Pie, was the popular cooking reality show, “Chopped!” Using the same idea, she then led the students through a writing exercise using random objects to create a story.
Tuscan Principal, Ms. Malikah Majeed remarked, “Thank you so very much to our wonderful Library Media Specialist, Amy Popp, for bringing such an outstanding author to Tuscan for our students to learn from and enjoy.” Ms. Yeh’s visit will surely be a fond memory for all of Tuscan’s students. Ms. Yeh’s visit was sponsored by the Tuscan PTA.
